Envy on the Coast, “Sugar Skulls”

Like other popular bands hailing from the Strong Island alternative music scene, the Long Island quintet’s debut album, “Lucy Gray,” is heavy with dramatic, emotive and aggressive music. The lead single’s driving instrumentals are complemented by choruses built for screaming along to, as well as soft midsong breakdowns.

The Receiving End of Sirens, “Smoke and Mirrors”

The experimental band from Boston has taken astronomer Johannes Kepler’s “Third Law of Planetary Motion” and run with it. Their sophomore album, “The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi,” explores themes of misery and famine, and this track lands squarely in the former category, being about mental and physical emptiness. Plus, it’s got a bridge that’s both eerie and lovely.

From YahooNews

Listeners tuning in to Chicago alternative rock station WKQX (Q101) on August 9 heard a catchy, guitar-driven track called “The Great Divide,” followed by an announcement that the song was produced by a “mystery artist.” It quickly became the most-requested song on the station and was put into power rotation by the programming department.  After 3 weeks the station revealed that the artist was “HANSON”.  The band saw a 95% increase in digital downloads during that time period.

“The station wanted to let the song speak for itself,” pianist/vocalist Taylor Hanson said. “We were really happy they allowed people to hear something new and different.”

The band, which is gearing up for a tour to support its latest album, “The Walk” — released in August on its own 3G Records.  The brothers are all married now and Taylor and Issac have children.

Do you think Hanson will ever outgrow it’s  MMMboop past from 1997?

We The Kings

m_745e0e4bc1d408461f95a2b484fc5dd3.jpgWe’re doing an interview with their Bradenton Florida band this week and while we usually don’t say things like this about a band we haven’t met yet, we really have enjoyed their advance cd.

Our favorite track is #3 Check Yes Juliet while the band has filmed a video already for Skyway Avenue. Their cd is really full of hits!

Their cd will drop on October 2They will be on a national Tour With Boys Like Girls starting on September 30From their press release: We The Kings, an alternative pop-rock band from Bradenton Florida are gearing up for the release of their self-titled CD, which is due out on October 2 (S-Curve Records).

In addition to a strong presence on MySpace, earlier this year the band topped Purevolume.com’s charts.Ranging in ages from 18-22, Travis Clark (vocals/guitar), Hunter Thomsen (guitar, backing vocals), Drew Thomsen (bass) and Danny Duncan (drums), took their name from King Middle School, where all four band members attended. In 2007, the band inked a deal with S-Curve Records and went into the studio to create their debut album. The album was produced by S*A*M and Sluggo (Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship) and mixed by Lou Giordano (Plain White T’s, Taking Back Sunday) and Tom Lord-Alge (Fall Out Boy, Blink-182).

On their debut, the Florida natives embrace their upbringing showing all sorts of love for Bradenton on their self-titled disc. Songs such as “Skyway Avenue,” August Is Over,” and “This Is Our Town” speak directly to Bradenton locales and the culture of the resort community. Guitarist Hunter Thomsen even proudly sports a tattoo of the Sunshine State on his chest.“We really just wanted to reflect on how much our hometown means to us, how it sculpted us and, even beyond the band, how long we’ve all been together,” says singer/guitarist/songwriter Travis Clark.

The band are currently touring with Valenica, and later this month they will hit the road with Boys Like Girls, and All Time Low.

Because watches are no longer just for telling the time.  These are S.t.a.m.p.s watches.  A whole collection of time pieces from Europe that mix and match.  We’re about to film a segment on them but have been wearing them around South Florida and the reaction is awesome.  Zac says they are real chick magnets.   His is a big black band with a Frankenstein watch face!
